Do you think the federal government should force a national speed limit law on the states?
NOTE: It may take up to two minutes for your vote to appear on the counter. Thank you for voting! In the 1970's the National Maximum Speed Law was signed into action, reducing the speed limit on the nation's highways to no higher than 55 miles per hour. The national speed limit law was repealed in the early 1990s.
It was never proven whether the national speed limit law reduced pollution, gas consumption or saved lives. Highway fatalities have decreased since the law was repealed, and cars produce far less pollutants than they did when the law was initially foisted upon the country. Now, retiring U.S. Senator John Warner (R-VA) is proposing re-imposing the national speed limit law under the guise of saving gas. The law could reduce the speed limits on the nation's highways to 55 miles per hour or less. |
